DN42

Some time ago I’ve gotten myself into this thing called DN42. It’s basically a huge interconnected mesh VPN that aims to mirror the way the Internet works with BGP and other stuff.

As of right now my setup is pretty basic — only one node, and it’s a container located on my homeserver. However, it’s still been great fun experimenting and somehow I didn’t break the network (hopefully not yet).

In the future I might add some more nodes, but I’m still having a hard time deciding which provider to use. Right now I’m thinking of TierHive, mostly because it’s cheaaaap but I’m waiting on them to add IPv6 support (cause as of right now only NATted IPv4 is supported, which isn’t ideal).

My experience with DN42 has been very positive overall, I’ve learned a bunch of stuff about networking (which has always been a hard topic for me) and about how real Internet peerings work. Plus it’s always nice to be connected to this big network of cool people experimenting with networking!

I’m also looking for new peers if you’re interested. Ideally in Poland, but somewhere else in Europe is also fine if the latency is reasonable (ping miodowe.piwo.rocks). Currently IPv4 only because my ISP can’t be bothered, although I can give you an endpoint to connect if you’re behind NAT.

Please contact me either on Telegram (@breakgimme), Discord (breakgimme), IRC (hackint@breakgimme) or through my e-mail address in the DN42 registry (too much spammers on the internet to be just putting my e-mail here, sorry). I’m also happy to help you set yourself up in the DN42 network if you’d like to get started, although I’m not very experienced myself so please keep that in mind.
